How to repair a hole in a fiberglass boat when it continues to seep water?

Mar 21, 2007 by Mary K Categorized Under: Boats & Boating

We have a reluctant hole on the bottom of our boat. It will not stop water infiltration to remedy. It has not been in water since last fall! We have a repair kit fiberglass Bondo, we thought it was dry and put a coat on. I returned the next day to make another layer, and it was still wet and dripping wet. We always look for the boat to dry for the correction. Is there anything we can do with all its wet?

Do not use Bondo .. (which is polyester) to renew ... You need to use epoxy resin. Polyester resin is very good when you build a boat, but for repairs to West Systems epoxy get a kit. The only thing elegant about epoxy is that it generates heat while treatments that will help dry some of this moisture. Before starting Tho, I would put a heat lamp on the site, or a heat gun (use care not to get something too hot) to dry our much moisture as possible. Make sure ruffling area where the leak is fixed and the Up will stick. Video Systems and West phamplets to show you how to use it.You can use filler to thicken the epoxy resin and even set new fabrics fiberglass to steel in the region. Epoxy can be sanded and blended with the paper mill and sand to melt into the shape of your case. Consider which side of the hull you want to "plug" Sometimes it is best done inside. I repaired a parade before the keel on a boat to music, which was worn by a person pulling the boat on the sand or pebbles. The repair was "stuck" and not filtered since.

I feel you will just have to wait for it to dry. Try this, cover the vessel entered a low power bulb, then wait until it dries, take another F / G kit and it will fix your problem. Good luck.

How do you get rid of an old fiberglass boat that leaks?

We poverty to get rid of a 1959 fiberglass boat that has holes in the bottom. Any suggestions?

Fiberglass can be recycled. The premature poster who mentioned the chipper said the first part of the process. They they recycle the chips.

Fiberglass is easy to repair with the right-mindedness practice. Some hobbiest might take it off your hands. So craigslist might be an option too.

Call around and see if you can get a jettison yard to take it. If it is a small boat, like about 14 ft., you might find someone that might want it to make a planter out of.
