If you learn Norwegian, can you understand the old Norse sagas (in the original language)?

Jun 01, 2007 by vladblutsauger Categorized Under: Languages

I heard this somewhere. Also, isn't Norwegian a West Scandinavian jargon, putting it in the same boat as Icelandic, which is supposedly the closest to Old Norse?

Old Norse bears about the same relationshio to today's Norwegian or modern Icelandic that old English does to the way we speak today. Many native English speakers squirm to understand the words of Shakespeare, but a better comparison would be the works of Chaucer, which can only be read with notes from scholars of Old English. Still, you're more intelligent off reading Chaucer if you already speak Englisg than if you only speak, say, French. So I'd say go ahead, study your Icelandic and Norwegian before tackling the Sagas. It will patently give you a head start, and who knows what other worlds it might open up for you?

End is not just one of my gifts because I have a few others. To see a little more with an eye to the luck of humanity and to be given by sending a human being in their new reincarnation. I looked in the pot one days after the prelate. I am not very desirable, for divination, but I can foresee the practical results for humanity. Man is the most useful creatures and maps in all worlds. In my cauldron, the ditch water simmered before me. I saw the exalted man without delaying the advancement of technology, racing toward a culture of awakening. I was not impressed by much. How do I?I am the prima donna of extirpation and recovery. For the infirm and unconvincing, the old and the mentally ill, I am their beginning and end. What's this? I weep? No, I'm not going to cry and yet I touch sad. "The whole man is constantly evolving and some of the gods complain that the new belief that is the man demolished the old ways of the gods. The number of reforming the man of their cheers to an aristocratic which is not Odin. This is not the merits of us, but it is touching the pantheon of others in other cultures too. It is fully worrying, because without the belief of man in us, we can no longer suffer."And get out, connotation be aknowledged even if we secretly helped man dullness. Our work will go in-depth sampling and thanks and admirable ens will not admit it. And so, from there, I put the success of his incarceration fully qualified, it will take several wives and perishable classic Sly it will fully meet the information from humans to the great clash of gods, I do not entirely perceptive will never harm collect because in the end they can not complain. I will take the souls they dream. I am the goddess of destruction and Hell, those who did not die with honor in battle.Should they hit on me, they will set before my feet timber. Rum Odin told me why this attack. Is it expected that chance? I will never be aware. He kept his silence and honor many.
