What are some good materials to make a model canoe out of?

My bed-mate and I have to make a model canoe, but we're stuck on what we should do all the ideas?

mache article would be good.
You would be a wood (?) model on one side, then make 2 pieces and glue 'em together.

The thing about a canoe, it is a form very passionate and very light.
paper mache is probably better than replicate.

Of course, there is the question: "How selfless a model?" it would make a difference.

my name is jaco. i am embroiled with in the national concrete canoe competition. in this, we design, build, and race a canoe made of concrete. we are looking for a canoe design to replica our canoe after. speed is important. it will hold one person for race. do you have any ideas or suggestions? do you have a model or template we could use? i would know any help you can give me. thanks! jaco

For the entirety and fairness of competition you should really design one yourself. Be sure to read the competition rules thoroughly, use lightweight aggregates and prop. Try to displace as much volume as possible for the weight. Be bold and push the limits of the concrete, use a FE analysis to feeling the stresses involved and go thin where you can.

Any sketch for a reasonable- sized canoe should do, to allow for its weight. Maybe a 2- man design? It should have no decking, for obvious reasons. You may be required to state look after flotation, should it capsize, sink or swamp.
The trick in building a concrete yacht is a rigid reinforcing conceive, covered in chicken wire, then the cement applied to this framework inside and out. But the concrete is mixed up with pumice as the aggregate.
Unprejudiced ensure the steel framing is rigid, especially under yourself, as you will be moving around a bit!
