how to load a canoe on a car roof?

What is the appropriate way to load a canoe on a car roof?

I attach to my roof boats often torment. What I do is:

1. Put the boat through the two bars roof rack with the gunwales on the bars.

2. I attach a rope around each bar next to the dugout with two round towers and a chair.

3. I throw off the rope on the boat, around the bar on the other side, back and around the original bar.

4. I crank down tight and secure coupling with a trucker.

5.Because the rack or their attachment points may face disaster, I also attached two strings to the bow and stern of the boat (sometimes only one) and to protect these two points tie in the vehicle, also using a truck hitch for snugness. (I got a live a surprisingly long drive wear and vibration continued, in fact a section of Tore Thunder shower tray right off the car when I had the boat tied to the grid and not the car)

Thousands of miles I've never had a boat stand with the above method.

Note, I do not see opportunity for all the accessories rack when it is a canoe. Linking the boat straight on the bar works well. For 20 years I have been using the same key method to get boats to the bars of our boat trailer in the outdoor program I run. Not a problem.

On occasion, I just used foam blocks Gunnel instead of a roof rack.In addition to front and rear clips, I'll attach a gen or the length of the belt failure, the inside of the car with the doors open, on the other side of the car to the bench on the other side, back in the car and tighten again and unavoidable coupling with truckers A. Close doors, helps keep the cord or strap in place for the boat can not slip on the side. This is an inexpensive option for short journeys, but for frequent or longer trips, I recommend getting a roof rack seriously.

Upside down and secure with string.

How does a "foam roof pad" for carrying a canoe work?

Jun 22, 2007 by Bianca Categorized Under: Boats & Boating

I impecuniousness to hire a canoe when I go camping next week, and the website says they offer:
"Dwellingup Adventures stipulate thick foam pads that allow most cars to carry
one canoe. Carrying of the canoes is entirly at the vehicle owners hazard."
I emailed them about it, but they didn't answer my question, they just gave me delivery costs (which are in effect quite expensive), so I was wondering if anyone has ever encountered a similar kind of "foam pad" for carrying canoes? How do they toil, and can they be used on a normal sedan car?
So how do you keep the canoe on there? What do you tie it to? (wow, I feel stupid now, but I seriously dont get how you can just *tie* it on the car)

A bubble pad protects both the canoe and the car roof but does not always keep the canoe from slipping during transport. A roof rack (see Thule or Yakima) with canoe blocks is a preferable method for transporting a canoe. For retailers see: www.rei.com or www.riversidekayak.com

hey you could go get one of those egg crate pads At WalMart & it would toil just as well. You put it underneath the canoe to keep from marring & scratching your car.

Overcome the obstacles
For lots of us that large object is a kayak, surfboard, or kid's sailboat, in my case it's a waka ama or outrigger canoe. Bikes are another thing which are used regularly and are difficult to store as they take up a lot of space.
