This is a carving at the front bow of an outrigger canoe that is on display in the small town of Lahaina in Maui. Lahaina is an historic town that was once the capital of the Hawaiian kingdom and the seat of power for the Kamehameha Dynasty in the early nineteenth century. The king liked this small whaling town so much he used it as his place to live much of the time, instead of Honolulu in Oahu, where the palace has always been.
